HousingBuilding started on the site of Harlow’s former ski slope on Fifth Avenue in 2006 and was the first part of the housing development to be completed by Barratt Homes, the contractor chosen to develop the Gateway site. Around 159 of the 530 flats and houses are earmarked as affordable homes – that’s homes for rent and sale to local people, including key workers, at affordable prices. A further 40 units have been developed as part of the Government-backed Homebuy sinitiative for first time buyers. The scheme is being delivered through The Home and Communities Agency - one of the key partners in the Harlow Gateway project. All of the Homebuy units on the Gateway site have been allocated to people living or working in the Harlow area. The final homes on the Fifth Avenue site will be completed after Leisurezone, the new community leisure centre being built on Second Avenue, is up and running. Another 60 homes are planned on the swimming pool site in First Avenue, but a developer is yet to be appointed. |
